Entrepreneurship - Second week
This week has been great. I learned a lot and did an "entrepreneurial soul search" that I found powerful. Most of the learning I did was from the book Launching Leaders as I read through chapters 1 to 3. I'll be commenting down below on what I learned in more in detail.
Taking Control Of Your life
This is the first chapter and learned some meaningful particles of understanding.
Life is too complex to be understood from every single point of view or perspective. It is hard to predict what the future might hold for each of us, nearly impossible. This means there is no such thing as a recipe for success, no matter how good or hard-working we are. This doesn't mean I don't believe that improving and trying to be better is useful because it is, but I like the next framework of thinking: 'No matter how much you try there is no guarantee of success. So do not value yourself for your successes. Now I am making myself a bit clearer I think.
I learned in this chapter that there is great value in stopping identifying ourselves through the glasses of our social status, career, political affiliation, or any other worldly thing but as sons and daughters of a Heavenly Father, a loving and caring Heavenly Father. Doing this will remove from our hearts all those vain expectations and will let us see things as they are in the great eternal perspective.
Who Do You Want To Become? The Power Of Defining Your Core Values
Jesus is who he is in part because he understood what he was supposed to be. He acted as the Only Begotten Son of God because that is what he was taught he was, and sure we can read saying a similar affirmation over and over again. So, he had to behave as that, the Only Begotten Son of God. That is not Neuro-Linguistic Programming, but a deeper understanding of oneself.
Understanding the values we want to be defined by it is going to give us the mental framework to act as if we were that type of being. The repetition of who want to be will help us to do what that person should do and do so will make us become that type of person.
Mentors: Your Bridge To Success
We read books to engage with someone else story, whether this story is fiction o real, we want to learn what the book wants to teach or see through the experiences of the characters of a novel. I guess we do this partially because we don't have those experiences, and in many cases, we won't be able to have such experiences. So we read to be part of that.
Having someone experienced is helpful because he could help you see things you didn't see because of the lack of exposure to a specific situation, just like a book. The authors mention some aspects to see when looking for a mentor:
- Frame your future. Understand what you want in your life.
- Look for a believer. Someone who can see your potential.
- Be observant. Analyze this person's behavior.
- Be mindful of God's hand. Someone who will not make go away from your principles.
- Be bold. Ask what you want, respectfully.
- Be careful. Look for someone interested in you and not as a financial partner.
- Be a good candidate. Be as close as possible to your mentor.
- Show gratitude. Do not just receive but give.
